Pilot Bill Smith won the 2009 Bluegrass Balloon Festival by tossing a marker just seven inches from the target at Bowman Field. Despite challenging weather, he guided the Kentucky National Guard Balloon between the runways of the Louisville airport and passed just 15 feet above the "X" to make the winning throw, beating out more 60 other pilots. Bill finished second in the event in 2004 and now claims first place in the largest balloon race in the State of Kentucky. |
